A Vital Read For Anyone Involved In A Web Project, 2008-02-27 Since the day I got this book, my outlook on the process of designing for the web has changed entirely.
Regardless of the examples, the guidelines and advice in this book can be applied to any design for the web. The book is very manageable, starting off explaining Jesse James Garrett's 'Elements of User Experience' diagram in summary, so that you can grasp the concept, and then going into much more detail of how to plan the elements of a project in an effective way.
It isn't written in an academic tone, which makes this an interesting and easily-digestible read in a few hours and, if you're anything like me, you'll end up dipping into it for advice whenever you're broaching user testing or any similar exercise.
I am only currently a student, but I have the 'Elements of User Experience' diagram on my wall and I use it to help plan all of my projects. This book opens your eyes to so many aspects of user experience that it would be difficult coming away from reading it without learning something new.

Apple Logic Pro 8 Traing Series - Book 1, 2010-02-12 The first book in this series of two on Logic Pro 8 is excellent. It takes you through the stages of music production with practical excercises so that you avoid the difficulty of having to know what function you want to use before you can look it up in the Ref Manual. For me, it was pitched at just the right level and I learnt a great deal by working through it. It also gives tips about the music production, not just the technicalities of using Logic. It's split into chapters, so, for example, if you want to know how to record an audio track and then edit an audio track, say tidy up a vocal, you just read those two chapters which take you right through the process. Similar chapters on mixing, drum machine programming, etc.
I strongly recommend this as a way into starting to learn thoroughly how to use Logic, both musically and technically.

Suddenly I can do it, 2010-05-23 My son bought me this product for Christmas after many subtle hints. I had finished the book by New Year and I was really pleased with the outcome. Suddenly I was a Photoshop expert and getting some really good results from some frankly uninspiring shots.
What this book does is take you through a process and exposes you to the use of layers in a way that makes you understand (finally) what layer do and can do.
It wont help you make a badly composed picture into a masterpiece, but it will enable you to rescue all the potential that there is in your photos.
I loved this book and Scott's approach to teaching you how to use photoshop. He uses his own shots and takes you through his process to make the best of each shot using the 7 point system.
My only criticism is that it used CS3 and I was on CS4 (now CS5) but the basics still apply and it was also fun.
Well worth buying Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3 (Voices)

How to put the Art back into a Nerd's website, and much more, 2009-10-05 Bought it after reading the amazon reviews and am delighted with the book. Not only does it deal with the whole range of important factors in making web site information accesible and enjoyable, but I was surprised to find some very useful suggestions on the more techy side. Printed on nice paper with nice figures too!
