Average rating of 5/5 My first venture into serious photography., 2010-02-20
This was my first 'serious' camera, after years of playing about with PnS and bridge cameras, I wanted something that would give me greater flexibility (lenses) and greater control over what I was going to photograph (settings).

I managed to bag a second hand 450D with IS kit lens for almost exactly 400 pounds. The screen on the 450D is lovely, half an inch bigger than the 1000D. The controls are nice to use, and I've had no real problems so far. The body is unfortunately made of plastic, whereas the 40D is magnesium alloy. But, at this price it's about right.

One major negative point I have noticed about the 450D is quick-AF is less than perfect, even just using the centre point. Firing the flash often helps to make it more accurate, but quite often it slightly back/front focusses, producing ever so slightly 'soft' shots. you can get around this by using contrast-detect AF in live view, which is very accurate, or simply manual focussing.

If you are looking for a first SLR consider this one. It's like the 1000D but offers slightly more advantages, including sensitivity in the centre AF point up to f/2.8, a bigger screen and faster shooting in RAW. The megapixel difference is negligible, and for a sensor this size you really don't want to go higher than 12 MP anyway.

Average rating of 5/5 Simple but effective!, 2010-03-08
An extremely handy piece of equipment to have, especially for those stubborn little dust particles that just don't seem to budge when you try to blow them away yourself, a swift blast with the rocket blower and they're gone! Not only is it great to use for your dslr body and lenses but also for other electrical items such as dvd and cd players too. The only drawback I would say is the size of the rocket blower, it's quite chunky! Having said that, it fits in with my gear fine at the moment and is definately worth having, after all, what's the point in having an expensive camera and putting up with dust spots on your pics when you can blast them away with a Gittos Rocket Blower?!

Average rating of 5/5 Don't Hesitate - Kodak zi8 is Fantastic, Highly Recommended, 2010-03-08
I love this camera. Need I say more?
I bought it after A LOT of research. Having been looking for quite some time for a pocket HD camera for a while, I had looked at all the demo vids online and made a couple of duff purchases - then I bought the Kodak zi8 and have no regrets whatsoever.

Picture Quality: Fantastic.
Sound Quality: Fantastic.

Like I said at the start: I love it. I've made loads of videos both indoor and outdoor, average light and typical indoor light and I have not had to scrap a video yet.

If you want a HD pocket camera - don't hesitate to buy the Kodak zi8.

Average rating of 5/5 A best kept secret...., 2010-02-25
I read the reviews extensively before purchasing this little gem. I was expecting to receive a cheap plastic lens with a very low build quality given I'd read a lot of reviews and most draw your attention to this point. When I opened the box however, how pleasantly surprised I was to find a lightweight (yes) but not insubstantial piece of kit. I knew I was not going to be deceived by the look and weight of this lens as its reputation goes before it. I took my first portrait shot within a couple of minutes and boy was I delighted and astonished by the result.

Nice sharp detail with a beautiful slight blur on the surroundings. I'm sorry I'm not qualified to articulate the technical merits and benefits of an f1.8 stop but please trust me when I say if you want to take high quality portrait and macro. shots, then for a sub £100 pounds solution this lens will not disappoint. Being a prime 50mm lens then yes, you do have to stand back from your subject to obtain the right composition but once in the frame, click away and you'll be astonished with the results. I bought the hood and a skylight filter given their relatively low cost. An excellent investment to bring out the best in your Canon DSLR (I use a 400D), only wish I'd bought one two years ago. Highly recommended.

Average rating of 5/5 Does the job, 2010-01-17
It's difficult to say a lot about a memory card like this. Either it does the job or it doesn't - I have several of this particular type, and it does. Why several? Well both my wife and I have digital cameras and take lots of pictures especially when away, and neither of us likes the idea of putting all our eggs in one basket. So rather than have 8GB cards we each take two 4GB and switch them part way through the trip. That way if the worst does happen we haven't lost all the data and will have at least some photographs. It hasn't happened yet, but the peace of mind is good.
