The off-camera shoe cord does what its supposed to, but I find it a little bit too expensive and limiting. If you want it to use the flash off camera it only allows you to move the flash 60cm away, however the cable is coiled which is very good for storage and keeping it tidy but it tends to pull the flash back towards the camera. I usually use the camera hand-held and set up the flash on a tripod but the cable has nearly pulled the whole thing over twice so I had to stop doing that. For me, I would have been better buying a 430EX Flash so that I could fire IT wirelessly with my 580EX. All in all its good just consider what you are going to be using it for.
