Average rating of 5/5 Canon 580EX II Speedlite Flash Unit, 2008-11-14
This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I tell you now, if you can afford one then get it! Regardless of what you take photos of, you can use this to further your photography and take it to new levels. I am an am' wedding photographer, with this flash you can just switch it to E-TTL and bounce 'till your hearts content. I have not explored all the features, but the wide angle diffuser is really handy with my 10-20mm Sigma. I'm not entirely sure about the catchlight panel, but you can throw a little light directly forward with bounce at the same time which really adds another tool to your belt.

I bought this for my dad to view all his old slides, but I've used it more than he has. Take my advice. Get up the loft and dig out all those old slides. You'll be amazed what you'll find. Then you need to buy a decent transparency scanner. This was meant to be a cheap purchase, the price seems higher now - expensive for what it is, so get a cheaper version.

Average rating of 4/5 Cracking Little Flash, 2008-04-19
I've been looking for a flash gun for my Canon 400D for ages . For price I paid on Amazon which was half its list , I couldn't resist.
I don't often use a flash as I prefer natural light but I wanted something more powerful than the built in pop up thing.
No it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Canon branded flashed but it works and works well. The build quality is good as i'd expect from Sunpak having had this brand years ago
I read some reviews on it before I bought it and it scored well for a £100 flash! I paid half that remember!
So if like me you can't really justify £300 for flash gun go for this little beaut . Its fully auto but you can adjust the EV setting to get the exposure you want.

Average rating of 5/5 The best, 2008-09-09
Coupled with my Olympus E420, this is the best flash I have owned since my first Olympus camera + flash in 1977. To put it simply, it will handle any need for a flash-gun that an amateur photographer will encounter. You could add more power with its sister, the FL-50, but that's a choice you will make for yourself.

Using it with an Olympus E-series is simplicity itself, and, as long as you have made the right choices, like not forgetting the red-eye reduction, it will give you the right results. The build quality is exceptionally good.

Now I've been using it, a lot, I have to concede that the FL-36 is a whole lot better than my first Olympus flash. I thought the auto-zoom function would be less efficient than the rest. WRONG! It's absolutely brilliant! It's the degree of integration to my Olympus E420 that does it. Absolutely effective. (It's an E-system product, so it will do the same on any Olympus E-system camera.)

I've succeeded macro shots of shiny objects, bouncing the light off a wall or the ceiling, I've taken portraits indoors and out. Whatever genuine photographic test I've put it to, it has just sailed through.

This Nikon SB-800 Speedlight was purchased to be used with a D300 D-SLR.

Although not the most powerful flashgun available on the market it's however, powerful enough and extremely well built and it's manual is very comprehensive and I'm still digesting all of it's content.

As with all of today's camera/flashgun manufacturers, whose products work effortlessly together, Nikon products are no exception. You get various auto modes such as I-TTL, AA etc. depending on your camera type, together with full manual mode when desired. It comes with a case, stand, soft light diffuser, gel kit and the extra battery attachment so a fifth battery can be use which reduces it's recharge time but strangely, no batteries. I'm currently using five rechargeable 1300mAh Ni-MH AA batteries with no issue whatsoever, although as yet I haven't tried my 2700mAh batteries in it. Some people seem to have problems with the higher capacity Ni-MH batteries in various flashguns.

It can be attached directly to the camera's accessory/hot shoe with the light bounced off a wall or ceiling. It can be also be used remotely when set as a slave unit and triggered by the optional SU-800 commander or another SB-800 set as the master. It's so versatile that it can be triggered optically by the D300's built-in flashgun (or any other third party camera/flashgun combination including compact cameras with a built-in flash - I've tried this out with my Olympus Mju 1030 SW so I know that it works!). This can provide extra valuable direct or bounced light from an umbrella or wall etc..

There's the usual multi-channel facility to prevent interference from other Nikon camera/flashgun combo's setting off your equipment in error.

I'm finding the menu system fairly easy to use (with manual in hand to keep me right, LOL) but I've still got a lot of ground to cover and when I can afford more flashguns I'll be working on Nikon's Creative Light System thingy!

All in all an excellent addition to my photographic equipment and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Average rating of 5/5 Perfect pictures every flash, 2009-01-06
I bought this flash to go on my new 40D and although i had previously shirked a flash i am very pleased with the results. It comes with a great carry bag and stand, although it cannot be used off camera unless you have another on the camera to fire it. The sensor seems very good and in automatic produces great results.

I bounce this off the ceiling for most shots and the result is a perfect even light, no shadows, and because it's so versatile it doesn't matter what angle i have the camera at.

One word of warning, don't scrimp on your batteries! I used a cheaper brand and it reduced my recycling time to nearly a minute, useless! After some experimenting, including the new lithium AA batteries, i have found that the energizer rechargable 2500 batteries are the best. Practically no time between flashes for the first 5 flashes and then it recovers superfast and you can do it all again. Great for weddings and children photography where you just can't wait.

Buy it now and enjoy blinding your friends with it!
