easy to use and great results, 2008-11-19 when the camera arrived, it took me about 10 minutes to get familiar with the settings and features. menus and buttons are set out logically. then i tried it all out with photos of my children, flowers (testing the macro), landscapes, sunsets... i am very impressed with the results. it's a robust camera which is easy to hold and the quality of the photos is superb, even with zoom. the movie mode produces good video files. i am looking forward to using the camera at christmas and on days out. i also bought an 8GB SD card and fujifilm leather bag from amazon and they are great accessories for this camera.

Digital Camera Cybershot Dsc-h50 9.1mpix 15x Zoom Lcd 3in Usb Black - SONY - DSC
great camera, 2008-10-14 had this 3 months now and i am very pleased with it.
adjustable screen is fantastic making it very easy to get low angle shots or shots with the camera held above your head.
15x zoom is great and super stable in your hand and it will zoom up to 36x although this is digital zoom but at 9mp its still gets a reasonable shot for that odd distant picture.
shutter speeds are quick and there is no lag from pressing the button to taking the shot.
have found myself using the auto shoot mode quite a lot as it always takes a great picture (in well lit conditions)and in manual mode its a dream to use and i do like the thumbwheel control method. once your used to it you never need to look at what your doing it just becomes so intuitive.
overall a well specced bridge camera with superb pictures and all the modern features you need and plenty for the techy types as well.

bargain internet buy, 2008-10-30 ilooked around for a good easy to work camara for the wife to use on a day trip, this was the one she wanted as it felt good to hold and easy to work with its easy auto settings. comes with a sholder strap and also you get a lens cap, plus normal energizer non rechargable batterys but i would use 2500mah energizer aa rechargables or better as this camara drinks batterys for a living and takes 4 aa size ones. also comes with a well thought out user manual if you wish to set this up for better shots and settings. this feels well made and takes xd or standard sd or hc sd cards in the one slot. some might find it a bit on the big size but i like it as i alway manage to brake all my camaras zoom lens on the small compacts this as no pop out zoom lens just built in zoom on a big len so is perfect for me.
this s5800 take clear nice shots on auto settings. as a pop up flash that i thought was prity cool as i did not know this when i brought it from asda as there demo had no batterys in in the shop. amazons price is a bit cheaper than asda's but not by much just £10 less, but to be fair asda gave me 50 free photo printouts and a keyring to use in there print shop with there deal and i would could not chance item in the post and needed it that same day plus i like to look at my camaras before i buy, also with the asda deal it was covered by there no messing 1 year cover and 30 day change your mind deal. so if you want a good price amazon is the one with free delivery of 3 days, if you want it now and live near a asda store go and get one there with free photo prints and there money back warranty.
as you will see by other reviews a lot of people can't be wrong as it as a good feedback responce and i for one would recommend it anyday. 9/10 only because it needs four top spec rechargable batterys or a dc adapter as its power hungry.
get one, its a super bargain.

Zoom and zing, 2008-10-23 When my daughter splashed out on a superb Canon G9 Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD earlier this year, I decided it was time to replace my trusty Canon Ixus v with something a bit more sophisticated. Not wishing to pay G9 or SLR prices, and disliking the trend away from proper viewfinders on many recent ultra-compact models, I reckoned this is a perfect compromise between price, size and convenience. Having a Leica lens is a big attraction too of course.
I've had the FZ8 for a couple of months and find it's a joy to use - and of course the results are almost always a pleasure to look at too. The zoom lens is simply astonishing: I still can't believe some of the detail in the pictures I take of objects hundreds of yards away. Indoors, using natural available light without flash, also produces images you would not believe were possible.
I'm no great photographer, so the point-and-shoot mood is generally more than adequate for everyday use. When I do try more adventurous settings, though, I am rarely disappointed. Clearly, the more I use this camera the better photographer I become, and the learning process is extremely enjoyable.
The FZ8 has been overtaken by more sophisticated - and more expensive - Lumix models, and if you have the extra cash it may be worth opting for one of these. But for a relatively small outlay, this camera will not disappoint with the zing it brings to your pictures. My only regret is that it doesn't have a metal body, as it feels slightly less robust than my old Ixus.
Panasonic must have stopped making this model, so buy now while stocks last!

- The first 35mm Fisheye compact camera in the world.
- Captures an amazing 170 degree field of vision.
A new view on life, 2008-03-16 I bought the Fish Eye 2 in preparation for a holiday in Paris, and it was definitely worth it. The pictures are brilliant and with the ability for long and multiple exposures almost anything is possible. The Fish Eye view finder is good for those planned photo's where you want to see what you're capturing but it's much more fun to just shoot everything and see what comes out. And the fact that it uses normal 35mm film is also good as it means you can treat it just like a normal film camera, which I personally think should be used more rather than digital cameras. The only downside I have is the position of the flash, this means that for close pictures of people etc there is a shadow on the right of the picture where the lens blocks the flash, most of the time this is not a problem but sometimes you just wish you could see everything. This can be overcome with a hot shoe flash but unless you're a serious photographer I'd say it's just not worth it and you can have equal fun with the original flash. Overall it is an excellent camera that can bring lots of fun to any occasion.

A superb sub-SLR compromise, 2008-07-28 I was wondering whether to go to the expense of an SLR when shopping to replace my Sony CyberShot DSC-W1:
Sony Cyber-SHOT DSC-W1 Digital Camera
In the end, I went for this and I have not been disappointed. Its response is very quick and it looks great, being not too big and in possession of a great screen to view pictures on. In the box you get a rechargable battery (Lithium-ion NP-BG1), battery charger, shoulder strap, lens cap, lens hood (for use when the sun is out) and lens adapter, which is used to attach the hood and other lenses that you might wish to purchase. There's a USB cable and TV connector, too. I have a Sony Telephoto lens (Sony VCL-DH1758.AE Tele End Conversion Lens) which increases the magnification/zoom by 1.7, and is a great addition.
The pictures that are produced are superb and the super-steady technology ensures no blur if you have shakey hands. Having a 10x optical zoom is incredibly useful, and the images are brilliant, full of colour, as the lens is able to capture plenty of light.
If you don't want the expense of an SLR and you find that your current compact is not up to the job, this is the camera. I have no regrets forking out for this at all!
The camera uses the small Sony memory sticks. My 4GB one holds about 1250 images at 8MP. Of course, lowering the resolution allows more, so 3MP is about 2500.
