Very poor quality and performance, 2009-04-22
My first hint to the quality of this item was when the front fascia fell off as I was removing it from the packet. If I hadn't been planning to modify the thing for a custom photographic project, it would have immediately gone back to Amazon.

The molded hot shoe foot was very poorly made, the example on mine not even being square. It was very stiff to fit to the camera, and attempting removal caused it to separate from the main body, knocking off the front fascia and breaking one of the internal wires.
Be sure to have glue and a soldering iron available if you're thinking of buying one of these.

Performance-wise, it projected a clearly delineated circle of dim light in the centre-right of the viewfinder. It's not really of much use beyond 10-15 feet, and no use at all for wide angle shots.

Fine light, 2009-10-03
This little attachment is just fine when you need that little extra light on a subject , but be warned , it's not meant for lighting any kind of scene. If filming in a dark corner of a room, it will probably be enough to do the job but no more . And also remember, this is Sony's new propriety hot shoe ( smaller than normal shoes ) ..it won't fit your old camcorder/s. This is absolutely ridiculous and Sony have no right whatsoever to make a new range of attachments that are not standard size to suit their new range of cameras .( I had to sell my existing video light on Ebay ) . So, what we have is a light that gives a little boost when needed ( not much though ) , but the reality is that I shouldn't have to buy one in the first place ..shame on you Sony .

My partner smokes 40 cigs a day. She just wanted to see if it works to try and start to cut down at first. It does work! She has been using it for two days now so only in early stages but has cut down smoking to 20 cigs a day instead of 40. And that's in two days. So fingers crossed.
The product looks impressive and the packaging and product oozes quality. You get what you pay for we say! We have had no trouble with the vapour that it produces . Its expensive to buy compared with others , but its well worth giving this product a go.My partner says it beats any nicotene patch or tablet. BUY IT !

Update :End of 1st week. My partner now smoking 12 a day instead of 40 analogue(real fags)

Tips for the electronic Gamucci. The atomisers do fail on all e cigarettes so its always best to get a spare which can be much cheaper to buy with other makes. The cartridges you buy, contain the nicotine and will be moist. when they dry out then you will need to replace cartridge, you will know this by the reduction in "throat hit" and smoke it produces. Buy yourself some nicotine liquid and you top up your own cartrridges and save money .

I bought it 18 months before from Amazon for my Sony HDR- SR1 camcorder but I hardly used it because of the poor results. I originally bought it for my daughter's 1st birthday celebration but found that the amount of light from this device even in full power was not adequate for a small group of people. Finally I bought a workplace spot light with adjustable stand for around £15.00 in Argos that worked very well. Further the quality of the light from this Sony product also was not good and made the video with yellow colouration rather than natural colours! This product made the camcorder more bulky as well as can't hold it properly. This product also too expensive and is not worth for the hardly earned money. I would not recommend this product for big filming like parties or events.

Sony Handycam light - great kit, needs rechargeable battery, 2009-03-24
I've bought loads of these for my company. It's a great little light, sufficiently powerful for a talking head interview in a dark room. Very flexible for mounting due to the clever bracket that comes in the box.
Only down side is the speed with which it drains batteries! You need the most powerful AA batteries you can find, and lots of them. I keep 3 (yes, 3!) sets of recharageables in my camera case to avoid keeping Duracell in business.
