It needs a separate battery, 2008-07-15
This is a great light but it is not clear from the description that this light needs a separate battery to operate. I had assumed that it would take it's power from the camera. It just takes the same bat as the camera. (Pd150 or 170.) Don't forget the battery.

LIke most who buy this model, i use it for paranormal work and find it fantastic, for all of us without a hot shoe slot on our camcorders, this is a must and as you see in the picture, just screws onto the tripod hole on base of the camera. Our group uses only SONY gear, as all models have nightshot, but as the HDD models are smaller than the older bulky house brick Hi8 and Digital8 models, they only have the one ir sensor other than the two in the analogue ones. So having this with your camera makes nightshot a joy with its eight brigthtness adjustable ir lights. You can either run it off of two AA batteries or off one H series battery. You can have both in it as the AA's fit into the light via a removeable cover, and once its shut, the H series battery slots into the back, then you just slide the switch to A for the AA's, then once their spent you slide the switch to B for the H battery.All in all a great piece of kit that makes our work much easier (and brighter!).

Superb, 2008-07-04
I started to get a little disappointed when I opened the box to see it. It is tiny. I knew the picture was not to scale but Gorden Bennett it's small.

Because of this, I thought it was going to be rubbish, but when I put it into my camcorder and turned it on, wooosh! Bright light! It works like a dream.

There are a lot more lights that cost a lot more, but this one does just the job! So, the old saying is true; size doesn't matter.
