A great family camcorder, 2008-12-15
This is a very easy to use Cam. Brilliant with built-in 30GB HDD, which means you have more than 9 hrs high resolution shooting. You can just get it out and shoot anytime anywhere without need to worry about whether there is enough tape or disc space left. We took it for a 2 wks holiday to China, filmed everything for as long as we like, and still got lots memo left. It is just as easy when you need to edit and burn your own DVD, or simply copy all the files to PC, CD. The video quality is quite good, but can be more sharper. Still image is very weak, we always have a seprate camera on the go. The other weakness are: short battery life, insufficienct wind sound proof in very hard condition. But over all, a very good family cam for such a great value.

Great Pocket Video Camera, 2008-06-27
The Ultra Series Flip Video is perfect for recording up to one hour worth of video. It is perfect for families who want to share videos. I found that the sound quality is ok. The zoom is adequate but not great. And the picture quality is good for its price. The better the lighting you have, the better the quality of the video taken. It even looks good when watched on a TV screen. No sense lugging around a camcorder when you can carry this very light and small video camera that fits in your shirt pocket.

Downloading the videos to a computer is simple and it keeps with some pre-loaded software, which makes it easy for you to edit, email, save, and make photos from the videos. The editing is very basic; it lets you trim some off the front and back of what you recorded. And it is set up to link right into You Tube. I was able to make a video just seconds after installing the batteries.

The Ultra Series Flip Video has the ability to be mounted on a tripod as well as an action mount that can both be bought separately. But the 1-hour of video is all it can hold, which is more than enough for me. It does not have the ability to have the memory upgraded.

Just to summarize this video camera is very light and easy to use. It is so easy to use that no instruction manual is necessary and I am not electronic savvy. It comes with all you need, including TV connector cable, carrying case, wrist strap and even the batteries. This is all you need to share video with your family at a low cost. (Amazon US US$100)

JVC GZ-MG330A - Fantasic Value, 2008-12-14
I bought this camcorder for our next family holiday and because the old one finally had its day. The reviews already posted were very useful and after a bit more research I decided to purchase.
It is very simple to use out of the box. Instructions are clear and the battery charge up time was not long (for the standard battery). The quality of the video is very good for home use from standard to ultra fine mode. The battery usage isn't fantasic but good enough for our purposes, i.e. about 30 mins to 1 hour use at a time. Its easy to view files from cam to PC. Please don't buy it for the camera option as the 1.3 MP is not that great and you'll get better pictures from your mobile phone. The camcorder is small (about the size of your hand) and compact.
By way of accessories, I have since bought a spare battery (standard again) which came as part of a starter kit and included a carry case. It also include a mini DV tape as the kit was for an older model. I also bought a Kingston 8GB micro SD card (class 4), which adds a bit more memory. If you are buying a memory card, don't forget to look out for the "class" rating - for video recording then class 4 or above is better due to transfer rates or something like that!
I paid £192 and I've seen the price increase since I bought it a few weeks ago, so look around before buying. The spare batteries do cost a fair bit so be prepared to pay around £40 (I got it with a starter kit which came with the bag)
Overall, a very good product and ideal for family use.

this is just great, for the money it is spot on as a present - cheap enough for my 10 year old to get into shooting clips on holiday etc... thanks to the SD card memory, the battery lasts for ages - and the quality is great outdoors and more than good enough inside..

Great little camcorder, 2008-09-03
This is a great camcorder for the price. The 36x zoom is superb, and the image stabilisation works very well. It's pretty lightweight and will fit neatly into a coat pocket.
Image quality is not as good as more expensive models, but for filming family holidays etc it's perfectly adequate. My only slight gripe is I can't easily turn the date on for a few seconds at the beginning of filming like I used to be able to with my old 8mm Canon camcorder.
Quick start function is handy when you don't want to leave it running, but don't want to miss the action either.
Overall great value for money.

This is a diamond of a product. it is compact, well designed and an absolute doddle to use. I've had mine for a few weeks now and I'm still discovering extra little features. The supplied software is okay but any purchaser with Vista might like to use the Microsoft Movie Maker and DVD Maker software as an alternative.

Battery life is very good. That's one massive advantage of the machine having no moving parts to power.

Picture quality is fine indoors with the powerful built in light (the settings of which can be changed at the press of a couple of buttons). it is outside where this camcorder shows its quality. Superb in my experience. The Dolby Digital Stereo sound is passable given the size and overall spec of the product.

If you purchase this camcorder do yourself a favour and seek out a carrycase because you'll certainly want to take it out and about. A small collapsable tripod would also be a boon for any amatuer directors out there.

I still cannot get over the compact design. It should be described as a palmcorder. Yet all the major controls are easily manageable, even for those with larger fingers. The pin sharp monitor screen is also clear with touch sensitive 'laserlight' controls.

Wish I'd bought one years ago.

this is well worth it.the quality is very good and when watching on a computer the sound is also very good.however,has anybody tried to record clips onto dvd?i had mine plugged into my dvd recorder,but the picture keeps rolling.also it no longer logs into my youtube account.apart from that its still getting used a lot.

I bought the flip as a Christmas present for my son, given the price I was sceptical about picture and sound quality, but I was really surprised! The picture and sound quality are both excellent and it is so easy to use, my 10 year old mastered it quickly and has not put it down since Christmas day. He has uploaded and burned DVD's already. A really good buy for children and adult's who are not looking for anything too technical.
