"Pack up your troubles in your old camera kit bag, because Sony have produced the HD TG3E Handycam - the world's smallest, lightest, slimmest camcorder. Visually Sony's new toy is stunning too." The News of the World - 13th April 2008 "Sony's latest camcorder is the smallest and lightest on the market to capture video at the highest of HD resolutions." The Sunday Times - 13th April 2008 "In a few day's from now, you can buy the smallest, lightest high definition camcorder in the world, the Sony HDR-TG3E." The Daily Telegraph - 12th April 2008
The Sony TG3 is an excellent product, 2008-11-02 Been looking for a decent quality full 1080 HD camera for a while now and this is not only the best quality I have seen it is also one of the best designed with it's titanium casing and sleek minimal design. On my blog it made my top 50 gadgets for Christmas gifts this year and will be a strong contender for a while as none of the others on the market come close to the quality.
The only bad points I will note is:
1. If you want it on the very best quality video footage 4GB card included will only record about 30mins of video. If you put it in to HD SP mode it will record a good 70mins which for most people is still amazing. I suggest you buy a 8GB or 16GB card if you need the really best quality.
2. They don't include a hardcase which for a £400+ camera really should be a standard.
So if you are wondering "do I pay the extra to get this camera" - the answer is yes, as the other cheaper handhelds HD camcorders will disappoint you and be a waste of money.

HD = Highly Delighted!!, 2008-09-04 I bought this camera via Amazon and use it for both business and pleasure. I needed a camera that provided high quality images both still and video for business with detailed views of the environment and macro images for forensic work. I have not been at all disappointed. I have used it in the UK "as is" and got magnificent results with pinpoint clear video and stills. I have also been using it in the Middle East but to protect it from humidity and sand bought the SPK-HCD Sports Pack. Although bulky that performs well. Editing footage is far easier and more rapid than with conventional film to computer transfer methods particularly with the provided "Picture Motion Browser" software. Just attach a USB cable and away you go.But for full HD quality the Sony Vegas Pro 8 software is required. I used a trail version of that and found that I got excellent results. Having the hard drive also means its far easier to decide on footage "on the fly". Overall the camera is an extremely good product and although I am Sony fan anyway I would suggest they may have a market leader with this product.

panasonic HDC-SD9EB-S HD, 2008-10-07 I had been reading camcorder reviews for weeks before buying this camcorder from Amazon. I initially didn't think HD was the way to go because of budget contraints, but at £400 there were no other cacorders in the same league as this one. The picture clarity is fantastic not only in the view finder, but on my HP 1080p Panasonic TV as well. I use the Viera link which Panasonic offers on most of its media products and it works well. Editing the move clips was a breeze using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c (must be "c" for Panasonic AVCHD support). The free trial software you get with the camera is not worth the time. I don't use the software that comes with it to copy the files to other media either.
Fantastic camcorder at a fantastic price. Very small form factor and fits into the palm of your hand very neatly indeed.

A Camcorder for the myspace generation and Granny too!, 2008-10-16 I purchased two of these one white and one black, for me and my partner. The video that this device creates is of standard TV quality so is more than adequate for everyday use. You can upload directly to myspace or youtube and even maintain a vlog with it. The quality is fantastic even in relatively low light conditions.
For on the go, spur of the moment, recording it powers up in an impressive 4 seconds. This allows you to capture any sudden events that happen around you. Carrying a flip mino means that you are unlikely to miss any important family or life events ever again.
The flip mino is the successor to the flip ultra and is both smaller and lighter, not that the ultra was ever bulky! It keeps the simple controls of the ultra and introduces touch sensitive buttons, including a rewind and fast forward button. This would make a fantastic present for anyone and the one button record and stop is so easy to learn that even a technophobe granny can do it (just remember to show her how to charge it back up again).
That leads me neatly on to what I see as the only down side. The old ultra model took AA batteries and these were good usually for 5 hours as well as being easy to change on the go. The new mino has a lithium ion intern

ITS THE SIZE OF A LARGE MOUSE!, 2008-11-09 Bought this with no clue about tecno stuff -I just wanted something cheap and small for a holiday to India. Very nice little video camera -so small you could pop it in your top pocket -similar QVC rubbish around for the same money made by So-knee etc -this is a top make for little money -really simple to operate so good for granny or mum whos used to shoulder mounted 1990s cameras.
One criticism -is has poor low light recording abiltiy. -just use it outside -what do you want for £140 -themal night vision!!.
Buy it -you will like it.

Small and easy to use, 2008-09-28 I did some research on hard drive camcorders as I was fed up with tapes and I didn't imagine DVD would be straightforward. I was off to USA for the first time so wanted to ensure I had sufficient storage. I also didn't want to spend a fortune as I had no ambition to be a movie director. Out of the box I didn't need to read right through the manual to be able to use it straight away. I used standard quality but wish I had used the ultrafine mode to get that extra quality. The only niggle is that you switch it on by opening the screen and this hides the shutter control - so you have to close it again to open the shutter - until you remember (hard at my age). Zoom is controllable either by using a hand through the strap (with 3rd finger (traditional method) or by holding the camera in the hand and looking down on the screen and then fiddling the zoom with the thumb - lazy but easy. Its size makes it easy to control. It also has a stable, flat base so can be left on a table, wall etc. Controls on the screen are easy to use and playback and slide shows are easy. It plugs into a TV easily and I have recently downloaded the movies onto my computer hard drive. The software provided allows you to download, edit, make movies and DVDs. However you can just access the camera like a hard drive or pen drive without the software if you just want to copy the movie files. I like using Moviemaker and writing onto DVDs so I probably won't bother with the packaged software. This is a neat piece of kit for those who want to do easy videos. Budding Spielbergs might turn up their nose a bit but for us mortals this provides a clever, compact camcorder which fits in a pocket or a generic camera bag. Anyway how do they fit a hard rive into such a small space????

- Internal USB arm plugs directly into your computer for easy viewing and sharing

Well worth buying!, 2008-11-16 What an amazing little gadget! The picture and sound quality are exceptional considering the price tag and it's so easy to use that even my slightly techno-phobe husband could take footage. I'm having a little trouble emailing videos but I'm hoping that will iron itself out in time. I'd recommend buying a USB cable as I felt that using the integral USB arm is a bit precarious. I'm still giving the Flip 5 stars though, as I love it and and am so glad I bought it to preserve memories of my baby daughter. :-)

Great HD Camcorder!!!, 2008-10-29 Straight out of the box you quickly see you have a stylish and high quality HD camcorder. I have not yet bought an HD TV but wanted to use the latest HD technology when capturing Christmas, days out and birthdays. As detailed in the manual the camcorder easily connects to any TV over scart or RBG and scales down the output for 'normal' TVs.
Capturing recordings to the hard drive is as a one click operation. The 15x optical zoom is smooth and the LCD shows the recording in a crisp and clear window.
Transferring the HD files to a PC or laptop is easy with the free Sony Picture Motion Browser software, just install the software and connect the Sony docking station to the USB cable and connect to a free USB port on your PC. The software makes importing a piece of cake and you can burn straight to DVD or convert the HD file to MPEG or Windows WMV for easy sharing.
The box includes an ac adapter, handy cam docking station with A/V, power and USB sockets, a USB cable, 2 cdroms, a component A/V cable and a standard A/V cable. You will be up and running in no time. The only extra purchase I made was the Sony LCS-BBA soft carry case which is perfect for the HDR-SE10E.
I read before I purchase the HD camcorder that you can hear the hard disk while recording. This is not the case on the model I have, recording is instant, no tapes to manage or rewind and not a sound from the hard disk while recording.
I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this HD handy cam to anyone interested in moving from tape recording formats to 1080p HD recordings.
Can I also recommend buying Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum which retails at around £40.00. With this you can edit the HD movies in a time line, edit multiple types of video file format and build great DVDs. The software offers a great deal more than Picture Motion Browser.
