A fantastic camera with a total zoom of 15X, which coupled with its 12MP means you get excellent pictures.
Great Camera, 2009-11-22
I bought this camera to replace an old point and shoot camera that I used to supplement my DSLR.
I have not been disappointed. The picture quality and functions are great for a compact camera. It isn't the smallest camera on the market, but it is small enough to fit in my shirt or jeans pocket (as long as the jeans aren't too tight). The case has a quality finish. I bought this for less than half price on Amazon which made it excellent value.

Having been a fan of Canon cameras for as long as I can remember, this is the second Canon digital compact i have purchased. The first one ceased working after 14 months, and I put this as a one off. The replacement , Ixus 960, again ceased working after just over 1 year. There was no trauma to the camera, just an apparent electrical fault. I will not purchase another Canon, based on my experience.It is not just the breakdown, it is the loss of photo opportunities while being able to sort.
Since writing the review, i did some research and found that there was a fault with this model, and the Canon repair centre corrected free of charge. This was not dealt with by Canon, who merely replied to my support request informing me that it was out of warrenty.

If I had of wrote this review a couple of months ago, I probably would have given the camera 4 stars at least. Brilliant picture quality for point-and-shoot amateurs like me. Not overly impressed with the speed. The real problem is that the backlight on the LCD display has gone after about 18 months. I can still take pictures and use the camera as per usual, but it will be like the olden days when you have to wait until you get home to see your pictures. Not what I want from a £300 camera. If I send it to get fixed, it's going to cost at least £65 plus postage. I guess that's still cheaper than buying a new one, but what a pain in the backside. I have read other reviews about the Lens error which leads me to believe the build quality on this camera isn't great. Maybe they forgot about QA when they were busy stuffing more mega pixels in.
Really love this camera, 2009-07-29
I really really really love this camera. I have owned it for about 8 months now and couldn't be happier. I bought it to replace my Samsung 10MP camera which I HATED with a vengance for many reasons.
The Canon Ixus 960 is fab - it has everything the amatuer photographer requires - anti blur, face recognition and inbuilt red eye correction. I do agree with some reviews mentioning the shutter speed - it is a bit slow compared to competitors but if you aren't interested in taking X amount of pictures in X amount of seconds then it's not going to affect you.
The flash is also great, I took pictures in almost complete darkness in a club and people who see them don't believe that I took them in dark conditions.
I really can't recommend it enough, it looks fab and it takes fab pics. The only bad point for me is that I never use my 8MP camera phone now!!
