 Noisy and non-functional, 2010-07-01
Very noisy whenever the disk was turning. Even more noisy when the heads move of course, but at least that sounded normal. Managed to read one disk (on a Mac), after that I could read no other disk nor even the first one which had worked. The drive just make constant head movement noise and neither my Mac nor a Linux box could get any response out of the thing.
Not quite DOA, but darned close. This one will be going back.

Delivered when promised, worked straight out of the box. I have been able to retrieve the files I needed from my stack of old floppy discs
 3.52 USB Floppy Disk Drive, 2010-07-12
Unlike some hardware I have encountered this unit truly is 'plug and play'. My PC's operating system is VISTA Home Premium. I have loads disks dating back to 1998 and I have had no problem retrieving the information off all of them. The Floppy Disk Drive arrived prior to the ETA, sensibly packed and undamaged. I did not have to use the start up disk supplied as my PC recognised it the moment I inserted the USB cable. It is (unlike myself) small and neatly designed and very good value.

This usb floppy disk drive was recognized by an Acer 1360 computer.
The Acer computer's BIOS had been flashed by a faulty BIOS update provided by Acer.
I had to open up the Acer notebook to turn the first two DIP switches to the ON position.
While the computer was off I plugged in this usb floppy disk drive with a boot disk in it loaded with the 3 files needed to flash the computer's BIOS:
BIOS.WPH (this was the original BIOS and not the update to the original BIOS)
MINIDOS.SYS
PHLASH16.EXE
Pressing Fn + Esc and turning the computer on allowed the Acer computer to recognize and read the 3 files from this usb floppy disk drive and thereby flash the BIOS.
After the beeping had stopped I turned off this Acer computer, switched the two DIP switches back to the OFF postion, and started the Acer computer again.
This Acer computer which had not been working was once again working fine.

Worked first time with XP and Vista and gives me the flexibility I wanted. I can now access & transfer the files and get rid of my floppy discs. To date no problems.
