I bought this as a bit of an afterthought for using with my D300, I already have the wireless remote and generally use it more often.
This remote however is much more useful if you want to work behind the camera (where all the rest of the controls are) and more precisely control the timing of your shots.
The cord is perhaps a bit short and an extention wire would surely not have been too much to expect at this price.
Generally a good buy but if it's an either/or situation with the wireless RC05 I'd go for the RC05.

Why buy this?, 2008-10-15
If your going to be taking alot of night time long shutter speed shots or want to use the bulb setting on the camera, if you have any problems with camera shake while on tripods or if you want to take portrait shots where your not looking into the eye piece the whole time, well then get this.
If you just want to try out taking night time photos then I would just say use the timer on the camera. If you then decide that you like night shots and want to take more than get it.
It is a very handy little piece of equipment but if you do get it just don't let it sit in the bottom of your bag. The cord wraps up very neatly around itself and the bit that sticks in the camera can be put into the bottom (you can see the little hole on the picture) so it doesn't unravel.
I'm sure there are more uses for it but that's all I can think of at the moment.
